Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR RN) in Polson, MT

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse with specialized experience in the Operating Room to join our dynamic team. Shift & Schedule

  • Day Shift: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Full-time schedule: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in perioperative or OR settings
  • Proficiency with Epic Charting System (required)
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required); PALS preferred
  • Strong knowledge and experience in gynecological procedures including:
    • Abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy
    • Bilateral tubal ligation
    • C-sections and C-sections hardstop
    • Dilation & curettage
    • Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
    • Therapeutic abortion
  • Expertise in general surgery procedures such as:
    • Appendectomy
    • Cholecystectomy
    • Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
    • Laparoscopic assisted procedures
    • Mastectomy
    • Partial/total thyroidectomy (required)
  • Orthopedic surgery skills including:
    • Arthroscopy
    • Carpal tunnel release
    • Closed and open reduction of fractures
    • Total joint replacement
  • Pediatric and adult ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgical procedures:
    • Mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, stapedectomy
    • Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (both adult and pediatric)
    • Pediatric myringotomy with tubes (required)
  • Oral care knowledge with emphasis on:
    • Adult dentistry
    • Deciduous teeth extraction
    • Pediatric dentistry (required)
  • Endoscopic procedural competencies:
    • Colonoscopy
    • EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
  • Comprehensive professional skills including:
    • Administration of blood & blood products
    • Cardiac monitoring and code response
    • Conscious sedation monitoring
    • Infection control practices
    • Laser and radiation safety
    • Specimen handling and labeling
    • Starting peripheral IVs
    • Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure compliance
    • Urinary bladder catheterization
    • Wound management (required)
    • Fire safety and latex allergy awareness
    • Malignant hyperthermia response
  • Experience working with equipment and instrumentation such as electrosurgical units, Hana Table, and Steris systems
  • No travel required for this position

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care in both ambulatory and general operating rooms
  • Manage complex surgical cases with proficiency in a wide range of specialties including gynecology, general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, and oral procedures
  • Effectively monitor patient vitals and administer conscious sedation during operative procedures
  • Apply infection control, laser and radiation safety protocols to maintain a safe surgical environment
  • Execute Universal Protocol including surgical time-out to prevent errors
  • Coordinate specimen handling and labeling per established standards
  • Demonstrate expertise in administering blood and blood products as needed
  • Collaborate with surgical teams and support staff to ensure smooth, efficient perioperative workflow
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including code response and management of malignant hyperthermia
  • Document all nursing interventions and patient responses accurately in Epic charting system
  • Provide wound management and post-operative care instructions to patients and families
  • Maintain competence on specialized surgical equipment and instrumentation

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Minimum of 2 years of perioperative nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Current certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (mandatory), PALS preferred
  • Proficient in Epic electronic medical records system
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in managing a broad variety of surgical procedures and patient populations
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities within multidisciplinary surgical teams
  • Commitment to patient safety, adherence to infection control, and continuing professional development
